My name is Alejandra Solomone. I grew up in Carmel, California, earned a B.S. in Human Resource Management and a B.A. in Art History from the University of Arizona, and later certificates for a Graduate Gemologist degree in Residence as well as Jewelry Design from the Gemological Institute of America in Carlsbad, California. I also achieved a certificate in Stone Setting from Sir John Cass in London, England. Growing up I lived in Italy and Mexico and for the last several years I have lived and worked in New York City. When living in Rome, at age 7, I was taken by my grandmother to numerous jewelry stores including Petochi and Bvlgari. It was these trips that not only exposed me to the art of jewerly design, but this is when I made up my mind to design jewelry.
I have worked in various managerial positions in the jewelry and related luxury goods business and during that time I occasionally designed and made custom jewelry for myself and private clients. I started my career at an Auction house specializing in jewelry and watches in Beverly Hills, California. From there I moved to New York City to work for Sotheby’s where I was a Senior Manager at Sotheby’s.com in jewelry and watches. Because I wanted to broaden my experience of the industry I went to work for an Antique Jewelry seller at Bergdorf Goodman and then later became manager at VBH Luxury on Madison Avenue. An Italian based luxury goods house consisting of an exotic skin handbag line and jewelry, I managed the store, handled the wholesale accounts and press for the company in the United States. This included presenting the handbag line in Paris and buying stones with the designer in Basel. My diverse background has given me a unique perspective that inspires my approach to jewelry design. In 2008 I decided to pursue my passion of designing and making unique jewelry on a full-time basis. The result of that decision is Alejandra Jewels.
